The Old Glenalmond Golfing Society

The Old Glenalmond Golfing Society was established in 1933, to allow enthusiastic golfing OGs to continue to enjoy golf after leaving the College. The Society participates in a wide variety of events throughout the year, including society gatherings, matches against other former pupil societies and the College, and various high-profile tournaments. It is a society for golfers of all abilities (or even none!) and we welcome members and supporters who have an interest in the college and the game. Through the society, members get the chance to play some of the best courses in the UK, compete in prestigious competitions and most importantly, form lifelong friendships, and we encourage all OGs who enjoy the game to join our society.

The society meets annually in October at Elie, for our AGM, Annual Dinner, and to play for the society’s trophies. We have a smaller meeting at Royal Wimbledon in the summer months.

We have fixtures annually against the College at Cairnies, and against Sedbergh (Royal Wimbledon), Loretto (Prestwick). We enter teams into the Halford Hewitt (Royal Cinque Ports, Royal St Georges, Princes), Grafton Morrish (Denham, Royal West Norfolk, Hunstanton) , Cyril Gray (Worplesdon), Anniesland Trophy (Denham), Loretto Foursomes (West Sussex), Royal Wimbledon Putting and in the Scottish Wayfarers tournaments (Elie, Western Gailes/Panmure), so there is plenty of golf for all abilities to enjoy, and at many wonderful courses.

While we would like to win as many of these matches and tournaments as we can, our ethos is to encourage participation and friendship, and we welcome all OGs of any and all abilities to join the society.

The society also sponsors a golf scholarship at the college. Society members are encouraged to donate to the scholarship fund, which was initially established to allow golfers of talent to come to the school to develop their golf and their education, with Ladies European Tour professional, Carly Booth as the first recipient. More recently, as well as supporting scholars, the scholarship has funded improvements to the course, and also parts of the new indoor golf hub, which offers indoor golf training through Flightscope and simulators, essential for learning the game during the Scottish winter.

If you want to keep up with the society’s news, please sign up to the mailing list. Better still, if you want to play in our fixtures, whether competitive or friendly, and enjoy the comradery of the society, please consider joining.
