The Society is very proud to sponsor the golf scholarship at the college. Originally envisioned to support a worthy recipient through their 6th form at the college, Ladies European Tour professional Carly Booth was the first recipient of the scholarship. In recent years, the society has also helped fund improvements to the course, and other golf facilities, such as the golf hub, in line with its objectives to increase participation in golf at the college and after leaving the college.
Carly is not the only success story, as we have four other professional golfers in our ranks. Mike Bradfield, until recently the Head Professional at Elie, received the Whitcome Cox Trophy for being the number one PGA Trainee Professional in Great Britain & Ireland at his graduation in 2019 along with the Golf Pride Custom Fitting Award for the number one custom fitting student in his year.
Will Porter, winner of the Scottish Boys in 2015, now plies his trade on the Tartan Tour, along with brothers Andrew and Campbell (now an amateur) Gibson, who have competed on the Tartan Tour and the PGA Latin American tour.
One recent scholar, Violette Mir was selected for the French Girls Under 18 team, having won the Dunhill Schools Championships at Carnoustie and the Independent North East Schools Championship at Goswick Golf Club.
Currently the OGGS support 2 pupils to receive 30 1 hour individual lessons over the year, and support the entry of 3 teams into various school tournaments.
